 Numerology Books: the 'intuitive' view

When Numerology is taught at the Connaissance School it is done so, as far as is practical, as an inner process. Students are encouraged to seek intuition to sense the meanings of numbers and to 'interpret' numbers with a fresh perspective each time. Students are also given the 'traditional' meanings and methods of numerology but on the whole the student numerologist is not encouraged to rely on books. Numerology as a dynamic discipline must rely on the higher resources of individuals to progress, evolve.
Books are, however, very important tools. They increase general awareness of Numerology, present new methods, crystalise current thinking, act as foci for discussion and, in incorporating various forms of presentation, they broaden its appeal.

 A-Z of Numerology Books (by author)

This is by no means an exhaustive list. Even though Numerology is a relatively small field the number of publications runs into several hundred, many of which will now be out of print and largely unknown. I will add titles and authors whenever I become aware of them. As you can see all titles are in the English language. I am sorry to say I do not have the expertise to include the many publications in other languages (French, in particular, I believe, is well represented). Wherever possible the latest year of publication, current publisher(s) and ISBN number are provided and contact details of publishers if I think acquisition might be difficult. If I am aware of authors details or the content of the book I include a comment or two. There are also one or two non-book items included (video, CD Rom).
We are proud of books authored by members and ex-members and for some of these I have included reviews. Other books are also reviewed and I have added some comments here and there for information.
Most of the books are variations on what is sometimes called Modern Numerology or Pythagorean Numerology. However, there are some signicant departures from this notably from author John King and Leeya Thompson and Joanne Justis.

Balliett, Mrs L Dow

 Along with Cheiro, Mrs Balliett might well be the inventor or discoverer of modern numerology as there seems to be no record of anyone writing before them. The basic techniques and understanding she explains in her books are more or less what is practised and written about subsequently. Where or how she developed her art she does not fully explain but gives great credit to the Greek philosopher Pythagoras. However, there does not seem to be any evidence of Pythagoras developing numerology in this way and at most we could regard him as the inspiration or spiritual source for modern numerology and not, as some assert, its creator.
Mrs Balliett's dates are (probably) 1847 to 1929. She seems to have written most of her numerology books in the first decades of the 20th century.

Dudley, Underwood

Mr Dudley regards Numerology as dangerous nonsense and his book seeks to refute its various manifestations using rational argument and mathematics. He is included here partly because his opinions need to be addressed by Numerologists and partly because his book is good and he has interesting things to say. Despite his opinion of Numerology the author does pay it the respect of producing a thorough and intelligent criticism.
